The plateau of the action potential of the frog ventricle.

چکیده

A study was made of the change's produced in action potentials of frog ventricular cells by variation in ion concentrations, by administration of NaN3, 2: 4 DNP, NaCN, NalA and N2 which shortened the potentials. The exposure of the perfused tissue to ionized acridines, barbiturates and desoxyglucose caused a prolongation of the action potentials. These actions as obtained were reversible. The evidence from the time-course and differential effects of inhibitors suggests that an active ion transport, modulated by Ko + may be important in maintaining the plateau phase of the action potential.

Loss of the Plateau of the Cardiac Action Potential in Hypertonic Solutions

The effect of hypertonicity on the electrical properties of vertebrate myocardial cells was studied in ventricular muscle fibers of guinea pig, cat, frog, and chicken. The latter two species do not have a T-tubule system, whereas the former two do. In hypertonic solutions (2 x isotonic) produced by addition of sucrose or excess of NaCl, cell diameter decreased and there was a slight hyperpolari...

Mechanically dependent changes in action potentials recorded from the intact frog ventricle.

The wall of the ventricle contracts inhomogeneously during an isovolumic beat of an isolated, intact frog ventricle. Some epicardial segments actually lengthen while the pressure is rising. Almost simultaneously, the early repolarization phase of the monophasic action potential recorded from such a segment is accelerated, compared to the same phase for an isotonic beat in which the segment shor...

The Different Mechanisms of Action Potential Propagation in the Heart

It was thought previously that cardiac muscle gap junctions provide low-resistance connections between cells and permit the local-circuit current to flow. Some evidences show that myocardial cells may not require low-resistance connections for successful propagation of the action potential (AP). It seems that some other types of mechanisms must be involved in AP propagation. In this article, we...

Differences in Examined by Procaine, and Na and Ca Spikes As Application of Tetrodotoxin, Manganese Ions

The effects of tetrodotoxin, procaine, and manganese ions were examined on the Ca spike of the barnacle muscle fiber injected with Cabinding agent as well as on the action potential of the ventricular muscle fiber of the frog heart. Although tetrodotoxin and procaine very effectively suppress the "Na spike" of other tissues, no suppressing effects are found on "Ca spike" of the barnacle fiber, ...
